What It Does

This app highlights named entities in a PDF. You choose a named-entity recognition model, upload a PDF, and the app shows the document page by page with recognised entities highlighted in different colours.

The highlighted labels help you see where the model has found people, places, organisations, or other entity types supported by the selected model.

When To Use It

Use this app when you want to inspect named entities in a PDF visually, without first converting the document into a separate dataset.

Research Examples

  1. Check which people, institutions, and places are detected in a policy report, article, or archival PDF.
  2. Compare how well different entity-recognition models work on historical, multilingual, or domain-specific documents.

Good To Know

The app reads text from the PDF. If the PDF is scanned as images and has no OCR text layer, the app may not have usable text to analyse.

You can find this app in the B-TXT toolsuite under Interactive Apps on the VUB-HPC portal.
