What It Does

This app compares two .txt files and highlights passages that occur in both texts. You can set the minimum number of matching words, upload two files, and inspect the overlapping passages side by side.

The app also reports how many matching passages it found, how many words overlap, and what the longest shared passage is.

When To Use It

Use this app when you want to find shared wording between two documents.

Research Examples

  1. Compare two versions of a text to see which passages were reused, revised, or copied.
  2. Detect overlap between student work, published texts, archival documents, or editions of the same source.

Good To Know

This app looks for matching passages between two text files. It is useful for exploring textual overlap, but the meaning of that overlap still needs interpretation in context.

You can find this app in the B-TXT toolsuite under Interactive Apps on the VUB-HPC portal.
